Clio 172 Cup to Fabia VRs

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I have been secretly reading this forum for a little while. Yet another convert. I test drove the Fabia VRS on Saturday and shall hopefully be picking up my new one next Saturday fingers crossed... got a good deal on a silver one with no extras as the dealer had it on the books for a while (not pre-reg either!)

I previously owned a Clio 172 Cup which I sold in Jan. Whilst I think I will miss the Clio's handling and stonking straight line speed from a standing start I doubt I will miss the 23-28mpg! or the lack of aircon or abs (which caught me out once or twice)...

I don't really like modifying cars, especially when they are new, however on the test drive I did find that the VRs rolled a little in corners and when pushed hard on a roundabout ... does anyone have any issues with the handling or is it just a case of needing to drive it more and get used to it?

Any advice on running in or what diesel is best to use(BP, Shell etc) will be much appreciated.

Hello and Welcome

Hope you enjoy your new car... great colour too...

I doubt you will ever enjoy the same natural handling ability in your new car as your clio, however you do get used to the handling and the fabia does feel very planted at high speeds too! Have a search around in the forums, many people have modified there cars to improve the cars cornering!

Straight line speed, the fabia is no slouch, it picks up speed much faster than you think, effortlessly!!

hi and welcome :)

hello and welcome :)

running in i was advised by dealer to keep rpm below 3000 for approx first 500 miles, then gradually build revs as mileage increases to approx 900 - 1000, then you're ok to use full rpm range.

I initially used Jet diesel (too smokey, filthy tailpipe), tried Shell diesel extra, definite improvement smoke wise, although still some deposits on tailpipe.

Now running bp ultimate diesel (and paying for the privilege, 3p a litre more than shell brew!) but I can definitely say minimal smoke under hard acceleration, & a very clean tailpipe (just a few wisps).

Talking recently to JBS Auto Designs (Kev), apparently they've seen an extra 3-4 bhp on their rollers with diesels on bp ultimate, compared to other brews.

Welcome :wavey:

If you do a kwik search , you'll find there is a mix of likes on the handling.

Generaly, if you want to do some chucking round of the car, a set of eibachs will stiffen and lower.

if you just want to stiffen the front end a SEAT Strut brace ( upper & lower ) is an alternative.
