Manifold Crack - Boo Hoo

Featured Replies

As title has anyone got a guide on Turbo removal on a TFSi 2.0 engine.

My Manifold has a 10mm hairline crack in it which needs changing, I can source a part for less than £300 but I need a guide to see the level of difficulty in fitting the new part, so if any of the K03 to K04 boys have done a guide to the swap have you got any links?

Cheers

Rob

Is the manifold not part of the turbo?

The manifold is a cast part integral with the turbine housing. I am sure if the turbo was dismantled it could be fitted with a new turbine housing and manifold. But I would probabaly fit a new or reconditioned turbo whilst its off the car. Or dependant on where the crack is, get the manifold repaired professionally.

if its hair line a good welder will be able to do it, forget what type of welding it is now. nickel?

Cheers guys, yeah manifold is part of the turbo housing. TBH I've spoke to 3 people about welding and they can do it but all gave a 50/50 chance of it working. With the labour involved it isn't really worth the chance.

2 of the garages also said just leave it as it may never get any worse and it's not really affecting the way the car works/drives.

You can source just the manifold section or buy a complete second hand or recon turbo/manifold for about £300, just trying to gauge the labour involved.
