Few things I need help with please

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

few little niggles I need help with, wondering if anyone can help?

1/ I have had a funny noise coming from the rear of the car. I managed to track it down to the exhaust. If I lift it up it doesn't move/make a noise. But if I push it down it springs back and makes the noise. It is hanging really low. Does this mean my exhaust hangers have gone? If so which ones do I need an what is the parts number and price?

2/ I have just recently changed the tyres and now the back end if really twitchy. Is there and way of getting the balance better?

3/ I don't think its and issue but ever since I changed my n75 valve it almost sounds like my turbo flutters. Only some of the time but I only noticed it when I have my window down and since the weather has been naf I don't know how long it has been there for. There is no change in the power but the noise is there.

4/ I think my suspension has given up the goat. It wails around a fair bit. If I went for a cheap set of jom/fk coilovers are they really going to be that bad? Do I actually need £400 weitecs.

What tires and what pressure they at?

The exhaust sounds like the hangers

I think they set them at 30 but they look quite low. It is almost like the front end has so much grip it is showing up the rear tyres.

Definitely the hangers. My exhaust is the same. Regarding suspension, you don't 'need' Weitecs... Lofty just fitted some £170 JOM coilies to his car and is very pleased. I'll be trying them if my suspension aids the MOT failure of my car... well, that's what I'll tell 'er indoors!

Err 30? That's way too low on a Octy, put 2.4 bar in

Handling may also be to do with the suspension to be honest. Ive just fitted joms and i think they are brilliant, and I have them pretty low. Havve a look at my thread from yesterday. Worth it in my opinion, got mine from veedubmachine and the guy was really helpfull, 165 quid all in and very impressed

Ok... well I went out and "fixed" the exhaust today. No mounts where damaged, just needed twisting into place. So I twisted it back and it looked fantastic but by the time I had driven home it had twisted itself back to the wrong position. I tightened the coupler as tight as I could. How else can I stop this?

If I was to drill in two screws or a bolt through the middle of the coupler and pipe, would this work or cause to much turbulence?

Drill and bolt the exhaust coupler??!!!!

Fit a better clamp! You don't drill it though!!

1) This is the sort of thing a "friendly local" exhaust place (not a national chain like kwak-fit) is really good for.

2) Check tyre pressures all round; the rears are definitely too low. Also, what make tyres both ends? I pretty much guarantee that Toyos or Yokohamas up front and Woo-Sung Dark Spins on the back will cause handling issues.

3) Mine's been like that since I got the car 7 years' ago, but I only hear it with the driver's window open and a wall to my right.

4) If the springs and dampers have gone, £400 isn't that expensive.
