Becker sat-nav issue

Featured Replies

Anyone using a Becker TrafficAssist highSpeed 7934? Been having issues updating the maps on it. Downloaded the most recent software but it refuses to acknowedge the unit is connected to the 'puter. Connected it via USB and tried it on three versions of Windows (7 Pro 32bit, 7 64bit Enterprise Edition and Win XP 32bit) and they all know the unit is connected by downloading the drivers and starting Windows Active Sync. The unit runs WinCE AFAIK. I'm thinking it's the Becker software that's the problem but what's perplexing me is that the original version and the updated version won't accept that it's connected. Any users who can help, your input would be warmly received. The bummer is that map updates are free but what's the point if it won't connect :wonder: Thanks, Lee. I'll put a smilie at the end, just to be safe :hi:

Edit; Problem solved. The software on the Becker site is only for the Z series (be nice if that was mentioned before I bothered) Lifetime map updates isn't strictly true apparently. The maps are provided by Navteq and after trawling the Becker website, I found this tiny disclaimer;

Whenever you start your journey, your maps are always up to date thanks to the Lifetime Map Updates. Free of cost and without a time limit.* < note the asterisk.

*Only valid upon online activation within 30 days of first use. Up to 3 free map updates per year. Available for the entire product lifetime or until no more map data is provided by third parties.

I spoke to Navteq and the latest update is from 2009 and they won't release any more updates for this system. Free for life, it turns out, means as long as Navteq can be bothered.

Case closed, new sat-nav needed.
