help no garage in the area can solve my engine problem

i have a 2.0 six speed octavia 2006 i replaced the engine with a 2008 model and since then the rev counter does not work and the engine struggles to start but once running sounds excellent the only thing i was told was maybe the sensors for the cam and crank shafts may not be lined up but i cant see how this could be help please
