Looking for 'sound' advice...

Featured Replies

....see what I did there?? :p

A few months back I made the huge mistake of fitting 6x9's to my parcel shelf - the sound quality is just awful and I was thoroughly ripped off

I took the car to an audio specialist and they recommended losing the 6x9's for a sub and then getting decent speakers up front depending on how much I wanted to spend

I used to have a decent 8 speaker harmon kardon system in my old mini which had speakers in the rear doors and the all round sound was impressive - I want to get back to something like that

Won't I find that without rear door speakers in the Fabia i will never get that 'surrounded by sound' feeling??

The specialist told me that 6x9's are about the worst thing I could have bought for the car

The audio specialist is correct that 6x9's are utter crap and only bought by the '' chav '' brigade for their novas and corsas ! All the best SQ systems often only have front speakers, but those speakers are normally top quality (Focal/Rainbow/DLS etc), and they are often amped (DLS/Genesis etc). It all depends on what you are after, sometimes less is more when it comes to in car sound. My last car had 4 speakers but i tended to turn the rear speakers down and only had them for '' in fill '', my fronts were Focal and i had two DLS amps, one 2 channel for the fronts and a mono amp for my Genesis sub, the stereo's amp powered the rears.... it was as good as anything you will find. It sounded as good as my home system ! And in some ways, better as you had that '' cosy '' feeling you can get in a car listing to music. All of this is down to your budget, but i would be inclined to save a bit longer and get a decent system, stay away from Hellfords and don't go near any of the crap amps that ebay often sells for £19.99 incl of all the speakers !!

This is relevant to my interests, just wondering if you could recommend a head unit snd front spreakers?

I was literslly just about to go to Hellfords to look st their collection of 6x9s for my parcel shelf!

Glad I've seen this thread - probably saved me a tonne of money!
