Towbar Wiring Help needed

Featured Replies

I fitted a towbar a while back with all intentions of getting them wired in by a pro, but the best price so far is £70.00

Surely it's not a £70.00 job so I thought I would come to the Skoda pro's

little boc in middle has NP107 Voltage Triggered relay 30 amp on it.

Starting at top red wire it says Switched O/P

Blue Switched O/P

Green Permanent O/P

+ 12v Input

Red +12v Input

Black -Ve earth

Can anyone offer me a step by step guide instructions on how to take this job on myself.

Many Thanks Folks

just had a thought (steady's himself)

That little box is that for use with trailers n stuff or is it for the other set of electrics?

Have two electric thing's on car one for lights indicators etc etc and one for which I presume will be caravans n such like for powering fridge's etc etc (which im not wiring up because its not needed)

Only need single electrics for lightboard for towbar mounted cycle rack!

The Little box with be a split charge relay, if you don't want a 12S socket (white one) then this is not needed, if you do change your mind a towbar installer told me that they us the 12V socket supply in the boot as thats rated at 25amp and thats sufficient for these relays,

The wiring for the lights socket (12N) is quite simple and you can tag on the back of the lights cable, some do recommend putting in a relay for the brake lights as it is know for the switch to fail on the brake pedal due to the load but I towed regulary for 6 years with no probs without one, the long thin grey box looks like the indicator trailer bulb fail relay that should be wired in but is again upto you.

12n socket wiring is as follows

Socket pin number / connection / cable colour

1 Left hand (nearside) indicator Yellow

2 Fog Light(s) Blue

3 Earth to vehicle White

4 Right hand (offside) indicator Green

5 Right hand (offside) sidelight Brown

6 Brake lights Red

7 Left hand (nearside) side light Black

The indicator trailer bulb fail relay is wired in series with the indicator cables.

Hope that helps.

Heres a good website with alot of good info,
