Mot Failure Handbrake impeded in its travel hmmm.

Featured Replies

So, just had MOT failure from dealer carrying out MOT.

Apparently its handbrake impeded in its travel. Handbrake feels identical as its always been so Im not best pleased that apparently I need a new handbrake lever. Quoted at £170 quid apparently.

Anyone else any experience of this on Octavia II?

. Ive just spent £640 on it today, so probably bankrupt by end of week.

I'd ask them to show you why it's different to a car in the show room once you've felt one.

You can appeal it if you think it's wrong.

How old is it? Have you got a second opinion?

If this is what I think it could be then then it is quite a common complaint on the Octavia.

The plastic gaitor that slides up and down directly above and behind the handbrake lever gets jammed and restricts the movement of the lever itself.

£170 sounds steep though so may be you have a different issue?

They will always find something on an MOT, its a blank cheque book for them in my opinion.

As said above, get them to show you & explain the difference in a new car from the showroom.

I have used the same testing centre for 5 years now so im pretty confident with their MOT's being genuinely honest.

Not implying they are dishonest, however the mrs once had an MOT done by kwik fit & came back with 6 items for failure, took it to my testing centre & only 1 of the items was legitimate.

Awesome Information, Many Thanks Martziniuk and everyone else, Wasn't at all aware of this issue. Might save myself a bob or two:) Invaluable as ever Well done Briskoda.

I'm thinking I might take the whole sliding door bit off to get it through the MOT problem solved:)

Thanks very much indeed mate.
