Is this the end.?

Featured Replies

i fear this is the end to my reliable (rarely heard i know) 2.0tdi 140bhp Elegance....

i had done a 200mile round trip, sweet as a nut, then when i popped out to the shop, i got half a mile down the road then suddenly the car juddered like it was in too high a gear for the speed. i dipped the clutch and revved it ok, then 10 seconds later it just cut out.. no warning lights or anything. the car cranked ok, just wouldn't fire.

called the AA, who had a quick look, cranked the arse out of it until the red oil warning light came on!!!! plugged his computer in and saw no errors before towing me home..

did some googling and several posts said this sounds like a worn cam issue. got my neighbour, who is a mechanic to have a look, who aslo said sounds like cam before i had said what i had found.

whipped the top off, and could see wear on the exhaust lobes and the tappets were worn so he went ahead and replaced the lot...

the car still wont fire... it turns but wont fire....

the other thing i noticed that the oil level on the dip stick was really high.. it never burns oil so there has been no need for me to top it up..

has anyone else had similar issues and can someone shed any light on what could be wrong...

be sad to see her go, but if i cant get her fixed at a reasonable price i will have to scrap her.....

thanks in advance guys and gals.

How many miles?

the engine has done about 90k

further update however... it did fire for about 5 mins.. at times seemed to "hunt" on tickover, however when i revved it to about 1200rpm it was steady. until it then cut out after about 5 mins.. and it wouldn't start again.

could be 2 things that i am thinking now.. 1 (which i haven't checked.) a fueling issue.... or something to do with the temperature in some way. as the needle started to move just before it cut out..
