Road Tax Exemption, Do I need to display anything?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I will soon be collecting my new Fabia Greenline 2.

As you may know its road tax exempt. I am just wondering will I still need to display anything to prove I'm Road tax exempt like a "Free Tax Disc" or something or do I just leave it.

New to the forum and new to being the owner of a new not 2nd hand car.

Thanks for your help and input.

Luke.

You normally still display a £0.00 tax disc, like people who are disabled do, and get their road fund license free.

Welcome to the forum.

Do you mean "you have", 'Disabled Road Tax exemption'?

if you do not have to pay for your Road Tax due to the new vehicles low emissions,

then i would just get your vehicle as it is

registered by the dealer and with its £0 Tax disc.

If You have a 'Disabled Road Tax Exemption, You would need to get the vehicle 'Registered on the V5' as 'Disabled Class'

&

use your 'Exemption Certificate' to get a 'Free Disabled class Tax Disc Issued'.

*I would not do that unless you really want to.*

There are Traffic Wardens that look at 'Blue Badges' & expect a 'Disabled Class' Tax Disc, Motability cars will have that,

you do not need to, you can use your Blue Badge when in any vehicle if a Blue Badge holder..

I presume it will be supplied with something. Would have thought you would still get an annual disc even at £0 as it also a check on MoT and insurance. Could be wrong though!

No, he means that his incoming car attracts £0 RFL :)

"to prove I'm road tax exempt"

rather than

'the vehicle is road tax exempt' is what through me.

I have a 'Disabled Tax Exempt Certificate' for 'one vehicle',

but i do not use it on a Cheap Tax vehicle.

You still need a tax disc even though it shows "NIL".

you still need a tax disc, it just displays a value of 0.00. You apply online or at a post office in the normal way and walk out with a tax disc having paid nothing for it.

I've got a tax execmpt 1972 MG Midget. It still has a tax disc - it's just free

My wife did comment on the fact that for the modern cars I normally renew the tax on line on the last day of the month, but for some reason I renewed the Midget as soon as the reminder arrived.

It's almost possibe to enjoy renewing road tax....

yep, comes form dealer with a tax disc that says cost £0.00

each year as normal will have to tax it to prove insurance and MOT (if applicable) just only costs you the insurance and MOT when required

nice isn't it

welcome to the green line club

Nice no road fund tax ;) , lucky your not in Ireland they still pay £125 for Eco boxes, I'm on £20 per annum.

I wonder however how long will it be until the government changes/ moves the goal post to start charging again ?

how long will it be until the government changes/ moves the goal post to start charging again ?

probably as soon as they start losing income due to to many cars falling into low CO2 tax bands

Thanks everyone for the advice, very helpful. cant wait to get my GL2 Estate should be any day now!!!!!!

Thanks again

Luke

There is still a legal requirement to display a valid tax disc and you will be fined if you fail to do so. Even though you do not pay for the disc, the same renewal requirements remain (valid insurance, MOT).
