Advice needed on front shock absorbers

Featured Replies

Couple months ago while driving on motorway I had a scary moment it felt like the car got on ice, even though it was mid summer.

With more driving the problem was getting worse and it started wondering. I also noticed that when turning left the rear of the car wanted to catch up with front and wanted to roll.

The garage could not find anything wrong with suspension, checked shock absorbers but they were not bouncing and looked ok.

Car has done 130000 miles and shock were not changed and by the way it was leaning I was convinced that the problem was with rear shocks. So I just asked the garage to change them.

After change everything went back to normal. When shocks were removed it was found that one of them was much softer compared to the other.

Now when rear shock were changed it feels like the front is a bit loose(if you know what I mean) So I'm thinking of doing front shocks also.

The OEM parts are overpriced(was charged 100Euro per shock for the rear) so I'm looking at alternatives.

I'm looking for comfort ride. The choice is pretty big Boge, Sachs, KYB, Monroe etc.

I found a set of Bilstein B4 for 170Euro are these good?

Would be grateful for any recommendations. Also for good online stockists

P.S. should I change strut top mount with shocks?

Thanks

I fitted a set of Sachs not long ago, I found them to be very good if maybe a little hard compared to the standard shocks, so much so I mentioned to my local specialist that the car still felt a bit clunky, he suggested changing the top mounts and rear axel bushes.

After that the car felt much better, much less noise over small annoying bumps and pitted Tarmac. Very pleased now.

Hope this helps and sorry I can't be more technical...

For best handling while retaining comfort, fit Biltstein Sport B6 monotube shock absorbers. Pricey, but worth every penny. They lasted 90k+ miles so far where factory shocks had to be replaced after just 15k miles.

B4s are too soft and while keeping comfort intact, the handling is still wallowy.

Do a search for Bilstein and my posts on this forum, there have been quite a few threads on the B6
