Hi im looking at a new octavia vrs estate the cr 170 ones what they like on the mpg i get 43mpg out my car i have now thats a v50 d5 220bhp

did test drive a manual car yet to have a go in a dsg power was not bad and drove nice was a bit of road noise in the car but im sure thats down to the tyres they come with drove a load of cars with continental tyres always dam loud

been looking at deals on the blackline at local dealers all the same price round by me just the part x value that changes on my car.

whats the dsg like on mpg over the manual been told by dealer a manual can get 50mpg ish ?

I cannot comment on the DSG or the CR engine but my PD (albeit remapped) never really goes below 43mpg and on a good run I can achieve over 52mpg.

Was it a Combi or the hatch that you test drove? I can confirm that the Combi has less road noise thru the cabin than the hatch I tried as there was some more wind noise around the b-pillar on the hatch.

Pretty sure all new Octavia's (ones i've seen anyway) are supplied with SportContact Conti's on them but they used to come with Dunlop SP10's which I've seen lots of not to great reviews when fitted to the Octy. As it happens, I massively rate the Conti's on the Octavia.

The Blackline Octy appears to be a pretty good deal and there are a few threads on here about them but lack of curtain airbags may put some people off. The OTR price for the DSG combi is £23,495 and the Hatch DSG is £22,455 so with the current VAT free deal and the circa £2000 equipment thrown in over and above the currect standard vRS it sound very good indeed. The DSG would seem to be the one to go for as you also get the MFSW and Maxi-dot display as part of that package.

Strangely enough, according to the brochure they are yet to confirm the insurance group of the Blackline (the normal vRS CR170 is 28E)

My wagon gets around 4L/100km (70mpg imp.) on the highway, 5.5L/100km (51.3mpg imp.) around town and 7.5L/100km (37.6mpg imp.) when pushing it really hard. (Tyres screaming around corners, etc)

All numbers are averages over the entire run.

Very impressed.
