What did I order it for...

Featured Replies

This is a weird one...

I've just received my first order from `The Ultimate Finish`. Part of the order is Bilt-Hamber Surfex HD. But I'm ****ered if I can remember what I ordered it for! Any idea what this stuff does?

Many Thanks.

Mike.

Tis a general APC and degreaser - possibly interior?

Ditto - it's a water-based APC so biodegradable, kinder to the environment etc.

There's dozens of uses for it really, bit like Virosol. Surface cleaner around the house - floors etc, car interiors for removing grime from carpets, mats, seats. Wheel cleaning (would strip any pre-existing protection - wheel wax/sealant etc.)

Can be diluted right down too, again like Virosol - so for general cleaning tasks it'll go miles. Only use neat for really tough spot cleaning - stubborn brake dust, heavy soiling of fabrics etc.

Thanks for that, Coops. Thing is, I ordered it coz I had in mind that it was to be used during the `Wash-Polish-Wax` process...but I dont know at what stage I'd use it and how. Any ideas? Sorry to be a pain.

You could use it on the bodywork, for stripping any wax protection that's present, and starting the breakdown of fall-out/contaminents, before re-washing and moving onto clay....

However I'd only consider that in quite extreme circumstances - the only time I've used Virosol in that way is on cars that haven't run with any paint protection for some years and are ingrained with dirt and grime and the paint feels extremely rough to the touch.

Thank you, Wardy.

Well my car is only 2 months old and it has been Autoglyn Lifeshined` so it shouldn't be that bad. I'm new to this detailing lark (you can probably tell!!!) so I really am at a loss as to why I ordered it. I was told a while back that the `Lifeshine` would have worn off after 3 months and thats why I've ordered all this stuff to protect the car for the future. I think the best thing is I forget about it for the car.

Regards.

Mike.

Ah, well you certainly won't need it for the exterior! Really can't help you explain your purchase I'm afraid :)

As said, it's a good all purpose cleaner, so I'd use it around the house if I were you!

Also, Lifeshine, if applied properly should last a lot longer than 3 months. But longer-term, you're certainly better off with 'proper' detailing products...

What about to strip protection pre-clay stage ? I'd seen your post on claying.

If you used Surfex and then used the clay bar I think you will almost certainly strip the LIfeshine anyway. I think Lifeshine requires a set of maintenance products to keep up the protection.

Surfex is awesome stuff

But in all honesty a Multi purpose cleaner from a supermarket is just as good
