water ingress fixed :D

Featured Replies

Hi. im coming from norway and have like lots of others the big "water ingress" problem.

I want to tell my story so other users can find some help in fixing the problem.

i started off with checking the rubber grommets (under the battery) and the poller filter intake. my pollen filter intake was already siliconed (if this havent been done. Do it!). But the rubber grommets where not removed. Removed and ready for next task.

i still had water coming in so i decided to silicone the ecu box and the rubber grommet for the hood wire just in case. And guess what! No more water coming in :whew:

Im sorry for the lack of photos but just ask and i will try to take some photos.

Then i was moving on to the interior wiring. i had to re solder all of the nodes.(just a fancy name of cables crimped with steel and stuck in rubber protective.)

i counted around 10 nodes from front to back of car. i re soldered all of them. (they where all green ish.) dont mind the big red cable its just for the stereo

When i had soldered all the nodes. the light in the roof lighted up. but still no puddle lights on the rear left door. i followed the cables from the loom in the floor to the door. some of the contacts in the b pillar had rottened. You can see a little green stuff on the contact.

I just stripped the cable colors that where green in the contact and soldered in new cables. the easy and effective way :hi:

My next problem where the ccu box. the ground cable had rottened.I just drilled out the original cable and inserted a new ground cable. and glued with a hot gun.

i still have a problem with the light under the driver seat (left hand drive). But this was all the time i had in spare for this weekend.

I hope my english is good enough, Im from norway, :giggle:

If you guys have any questions just ask and i will try too answer as soon as possible..

Pls post pictures :)

Links on top topic on this site are broken, and I need to see how to do before I start doing it.

Tnx in advance.

Tnx so much.

Actually I dont have(well my car obviously) water ingress problem, but I heard that is common problem, and is better prevent than cure.
