Orange engine warning light

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm on holiday in Cornwall this week and today the engine earning light came on. Orange picture of the engine on the rev counter. I've not got my owners manual with me so does anyone know what this means please?

I've called the closest dealer and made an appointment for tomorrow. They didnt seem overly concerned.

The car seems fine, but just before it came on I had to reverse up a fairly steep hill to let someone past. Was a bit hairy!

It's a 2005 2.0 FSI(petrol) btw.

It could be one of a million things, unfortunately there is no way to diagnose the issue from your post.

Best off waiting til you get it on the computer and it will tell you what's caused it.

Hmmm. Apparently it's ok to still drive as long as it doesent go red. I bet it's something expensive :)

Yeah it will be fine to drive, had mine on for almost 2 weeks once (1400 miles ish)

Just couldn't get into garage to get it sorted, over Xmas period etc.

Fingers crossed, you might be lucky it could be something that can just be cleared and not come back on.

Hi. Dealer says its a faulty ERG valve. Cleared the light but it's come back on again. Quoted £350 to fix :(

Hopefully can mange till I go home and will then shop about for a cheaper price.

There is loads of threads on here about cleaning or removing the egr mate, have a search around or start another thread about the egr,

I'm sure it's something you can do yourself, with some help off people on here

Ive found a local specialist that will take it off & clean it first rather than replacing it straight away. Was going to try this myself but it looks like a messy job - £50 for an hours labour at the garage seems like a good deal and a clean is worth a try before replacement :)
