Bought new car today

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Went for my test drive in a vRS TSi DSG this afternoon as planned. Was totally shocked by the drive, and not in a good way. Had it out for a good half hour, blasted up and down motorways and B roads but couldn't believe how slow it seemed compared to my Fabia vRS. I know on paper they are neck and neck, but in the Fabia you get a real sense of speed, obviously with it being the smaller car.

So, I decided that I may as well save some pennies and get 8/10's of the performance of the petrol and go diesel, and keep my Furby for having blasts. Ended up ordering a white Blackline DSG and should have it in 3 weeks. I just hope I can avoid the DPF problems that plagued my last PD vRS.

Having driven and bought many cars over the years the paper figures are not absolute.

Use them as a guide then have a decent test drive to make sure. Don't spend half a years (or more) wages on a car that you will own for years that you have only driven round the block.

When I bought my Octy I drove the 1.9 for half an hour and then the 2.0 for half an hour. Difference was day and night for me. I paid the extra for the 2.0 and 70k miles later I made the right choice.

Getting a courtesy car for a service is also a great way of testing other engines. With a few weeks notice you can book the courtesy car of your choice.

Gotta love the Subaru 24 hour test drive offer though
