Engine management lights after detaching MAF

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Wondering if you guys can help.

I've been noticing that my VRS seems to be getting slightly low MPG in comparison to others on here, so I thought I'd have a play to see what the problem may be.

I used to have an Octavia TDI which did had bad MPG and low power and it turned out to be the MAF. I was able to check this was the case by unplugging it and the car ran much better.

I tried this on the Fabia this morning and the car popped up the Engine Management Light and ran worse!! So I decided to pug it back in again but the Light has stayed on??

Anyone know if there is a combination of buttons I can press to reset it?? I assume just disconnecting the battery would cause more issues than it would fix?? I haven't got VAG-COM so I'm unable to clear it using that.

Any ideas??

P.S.... I'm thinking of cleaning out the EGR to see if that is causing my low MPG... Will that throw the Engine Management Light too??

Cheers!!

Greg

Pulling off the battery cant hurt nothing. Leave it off for 20 mins or so to see if it clears itself once it realises its plugged in again. I did the same but i have a lil code reader that i cleared fault with.

EGR is a good bet. Tbh i could be anything small

Edit: where are you based? Maybe a local forum Member can help you with the light if it doesnt clear? :)

hiya luke, I shall give that a go after work.

I live in chepstow but work near tredegar house in Newport. I'll see if i can clear it myself before annoying any of the briskoda members though.

Cheers fella!

Greg

I believe the EML should go away after a number of starts. I know some don't/shouldn't - i.e. airbag codes... but engine sensors... IMO it should eventually reset unless it's really broke or by a bizzare coincidence, something else has gone wrong at the same time.
