Is the intercooler the radiator in front of the main radiator ??if it is The Metal strip that runs along the bottom has dropped off

is this anything to worry about / the cooling fins seem a little crumbly at bottom !! but the crumbly part is still well clear of the pipes

No. The radiator in front of the engine cooling radiator is the condenser for the aircon.

The intercooler is in front of the nearside front wheel arch just behind the bumper.
