Aldi - Torque Wrench Offer

Featured Replies

Aldi currently have a torque wrench complete with extension bar and 17, 19 and 23mm sockets on sale for £15.99. Worth looking at if anyone looking for a torque wrench for upcoming winter wheel change.

Two POV. I have the rear cover off my Furby a lot of the time,as any time I put it on, dog gets put in back. I've got an expensive one in the house ,that stays there, as I can't be certain that any Hi Viz I keep in the boot wil cover it up. I do carry a chepo, great for getting nuts off,and getting you back. My nuts ( cars ones,as Im not one to boast) are 17mm. And again it's a long reach one .

Sadly no - just can't get the staff these days!

Bought one today, seems well made and with a half inch drive - so it should be up to the task

tesco and a few other stores have an extending wheel wrench for under a tenner, comes with a double ended socket (17/19mm)

ah but this aldi one has a torque wrench, very handy

Just went in and bought one, very high quality feel. Would do for any torque able task, with a step down its great for anything. Also good and long for hard to shift bolts that need extra levering, rachet mech sounds and feels substantial too.

Good find expatman

Thought you might like to know how accurate the wrench is, I tested it by setting to 120Nm and "torqued" the wheel nuts on my 2012 Yeti - wheels were put on at the factory and haven't been changed since. I checked 4 nuts on each wheel (didn't bother with the locking nuts). Results as follows:-

Wheel 1 - spanner 'clicked' on 2 nuts without any movement of the nuts, on the other two there was a slight movement of the nut before the spanner clicked.

Wheel 2 - 3 nuts no movement before click, 1 nut slight movement before click.

Wheel 3 - 2 nuts no movement before click, 2 nuts very slight movement before click.

Wheel 4 - 3 nuts no movement before click, 1 nut very slight movement before click.

I am assuming that the factory fitted the wheels to the correct torque and it seems that the Aldi spanner is quite accurate because it mirrored the factory settings almost perfectly. Seems a good buy and will insure your wheel nuts are tightened evenly to the right torque when you change to your winter steel wheels, and probably more importantly, when you change back to alloys in the Spring.

(Note - repeat of post in inter tyres topic)

Assuming the factory does that would be making an a$$ of you ............and me.

Only way to check is to compare to a calibrated one.

I carry a Britool one I have had for 20 years. It probably needs recallibrating now, but I hardly use it, so not with it.

My other one only covers 2.5- 25Nm. Not much good for the car, but perfect for the bicycle.

Works well as a bluddy cheap large rachet though aswell. The amount of times I have to put a bar over my rachet to shift summit

I've always thought it more important that a torque wrench will ensure that the nuts are all set at the same tension(?)even if it's not calibrated.

Think for the tip off, I bought one today as I've been looking to get one for a while.

Great value and seems a decent quality.

Has a decent torque spread for a car.
