New Headlamps

Featured Replies

Ive seen quite a few car going around with very bright blue light and these cars haven't been new or audi's. I did buy some new blubs from halfords last year and there crap suppose to be 70% brighter than normal but they reall are'nt. These blue bulbs ive seen are even bright during a sunny day. Can anyone help and tell me if i can get some for my octavia?

Sound like xenons to me, which use HID lamps.

You can get aftermarket HID lamps but there are some legal implications

which you may or may not care about.

You'll probably find they're HID's. Whilst you can fit them, technically in the eyes of the law, you need to replace the headlights themselves as they're designed for halogen bulbs.

Many HID kits have been fitted to standard halogen headlights, but you might get in a little trouble with plod if you go down that route :p

And you'll annoy me by blinding me with HID bulbs that aren't in the correct optics...

Without a shadow of a doubt, those will be terrible! If you want good Halogen bulbs, get Phillips or Osram, at least +50% and expect to pay at least £15 for a pair of decent bulbs. Oh and the colour has no bearing on how much light they put out, and really bright bulbs with poor geometry are also useless as you'll be scattering light everywhere rather than at the road where you need it.

If you already have a pair of +70% installed in your car, and they're a decent brand/model, then the only way to get significantly more light on the road is a Xenon/HID kit. Here's a product test to give you a flavour of decent halogen bulbs: http://www.powerbulb...-bulb-test-2011 +100 is about as much as you can hope for from halogens, and note that these bulbs don't last as long.

It could be worth getting your local garage to check your headlamp alignment, you might of knocked them out of line when you fitted your new bulbs. Also I trust you've checked headlamp adjustment switch in the car is set to 0 or -

that would look awfull. Go for 100% uprated bulbs that are road legal, they exist and are very effective

Go for uprated bulbs, much better. If you are a Freedom member there is a good discount for an online retailer.

No there just bulbs im looking for no need to buy a kit? Ive seen these on ebay but im not sure if there really bright? :- http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3369cae88e

Those are 100watt, so are not recommended, as the could overload your wiring, and as they get very hot, possible damage the light lenses. And to be honest, at that price, probably won't last 5 minutes.

Go for a set of Osram Nightbreaker Plus or the equivalent bulb from Phillips, both available from suppliers here or Halfrauds. Even the Ring ones would probably be better than your linked ones!

And agreed, get you lights properly adjusted on a beam setter.

Just make sure they're they're Nightbreaker Plus, the boggo Nightbreakers don't last 5 minutes.

I had philips extreme vision +80% bulbs in mine for a while.

I put them in the Fiat 500 as I thought they needed brightening up.
