Boot Insulation?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering if there might be some benefit in installing some sound insulation in the boot. Say to velcro some on to the wheel arches and even on the floor. Anybody done this or have any ideas about it, and suitable materials?

The lad on the up forum who owns a seat mii claims fitting the up dual floor reduced rear noise

Depends if you want the sound absorbing to be discreet before you go sticking stuff down on the exposed metal

Well that sounds encouraging. I actually was wondering if UP! owners benefited from that. Naw, I think if I could get some suitable slab type insulation that can easily be shaped. I would put it on the floor and put a rug over it. The floor is sort of recessed anyway to accept that bit. Then something like the felt type insulation for the wheel arches, which would be flexible to follow the contours. This could be cut to shape and secured with velcro. If there was a type with a smooth finish on one side to resist fraying that would be ideal.

But won't that only cover the floor? Be costly and involve some hole drilling etc?

These can be purchased in Denmark for the inside of the wheel arch. Roughly GBP 190,- for a pair. I'm having those installed in mine.

Any links to web sites where these are available please? Would be interesting to research them further.
