HELP :( strange engine rattle / noise but not all the time?

Featured Replies

easy guys

my 2004 vrs has started doing a tiny metallic rattle/ vibration that can be heard in the car (when stereo's off lol) didn't know what it could be but at medium revs on acceleration only say 1800-2600 revs then goes i know my actuator is worn could it be this with the pressure on load?

also my recon gear box since i fitted the solid fly and vr6 clutch is giving a slight grumbling noise at tick over till i dip clutch or from under bonnet just move the gear selector a tiny bit is it just worn selector?????? also these common for the diffs to groan or can this be down to the 75w90 carlube oil i put in the box?

pulls fine just annoying gonna put an uprated diff in my old box i think :)

Have you checked the cat heatshield on the exhaust, it will make a metallic tinging sound when you accelerate if it's loose (or if the exhaust is loose on the mounts)

Was gonna suggest this myself. Had exactly the same issue myself recently and had a good look over my car at the weekend. A quick investigation underneath revealled it was indeed the cat heat shield. Removed it and all is now well.

Have the same problem, is it the cat heat shield or the aluminium plate behind the turbo inside the engine bay?
