Big red warning light on my new octavia...

Featured Replies

Hi, just bought a mk1 octavia four days ago- very tidy 1.9tdi estate with 105000. bought from a friend's dad who serviced well and respected it. Four days in and a warning triangle (complete with exclamation mark) is lit red on the console and it bongs at me, but only when in motion. Any ideas?- red's serious, I'm assuming.

Is it the handbrake warning switch?

Dunno- thought it was a triangle but I'm beginning to doubt myself after a good scout round on google. Definitely red with an exclamation mark, but perhaps not a triangle. In my defence, I had a five year old with me, making it difficult to pay attention.

Might be worth going back to see if the handbrake was a bit on after I've put him to bed...

I had a B5 Passat which did the same thing, the centre armrest obstructed the handbrake lever somewhat and there was a knack to reach round it and release the handbrake lever fully - handbrake warning light would seem to go out but when you away moved it boinged and the warning light came on - pressing the handbrake release button a second time would often allow it to drop another half inch or so

Thanks man- I'm hoping that's all it is as the car is seemingly a little gem. Far better to think I'm being a bit dim.

Handbrake not going down properly or switch, scared the poo out of me once when I didn't put it down properly, got the warning light flashing and the bong, thought I had major brake problems till I realized lol
