Oil pump-check or not too check?

Hi all. Have come from passat 3c and there oil woes to now having 2 skoda superbs both 2009 year. One is BMP 2.0tdi 140 engine other is CBBB 2.0tdi 170 engine. If anyone can help, I have read some are still suffering oil pump problems. Are both these gear driven oil pumps, do I need to check hex shaft from balancer shaft to oil pump as both have done between 120-130k miles now. Getting bit worried from past passat experience that there about to blow. Help!!!
