Replacing aerial connection

Featured Replies

Firstly what a full on idiot I am, just sat bored so thought I'd tidy the wiring up for my aux input.

Took the stereo out and forgot about the aerial lead, snapped it right on the joint of the connection into the back of the stereo doh!!!!!

Has anyone replaced the lead before, and if so is there a connection anywhere in it or does it run all the way to the base on the roof?

Also does anyone happen to have the part number and a price for the cable

Cheers

John

Sorry can't help with the part number or whether it goes all the way back to the aerial, though I suspect it would as it would have been installed at the same time as all the other wiring in looms while the shell was still bare internally. Simplist answer I can think of is to get a short section of lead including the plug and just piece it out by chopping your damaged plug off and connecting the new section on the end as long as you make good connections (solders best) and insulate with proper tape it'll work fine. A scrappy auto electrician or halfords should have something-it won't necessariy have to be skoda as long as the plug is the same

As an electrical engineer I can tell you this may play havoc with your VSWR :wonder:

But I have also hacked around with car aerial cables in the past and they always seem to work fine :giggle:

Cheers lads

As for vswr it shouldn't be an issue as it is RX only and not for TX :-)

Just called in local scrap yard and managed to chop a chunk of cable with plug on out a golf, should hopefully be able to splice it onto mine later.

All done and working again :-)

Total cost of £0 and 0 pence, result!
