Installing a Becker satnav

Featured Replies

I shall probably be getting a new Skoda Octavia in a couple of months, and want to check some details first regarding installing a sat-nav unit and an iPod.

I have a Becker DTM sat-nav in my current car (model 7802) and plan to transfer this to the Skoda. It's a single DIN size head unit. Also connected to the Becker is an Apple iPod, using a Dension ICE>Link adaptor. The iPod sits in a Brodit clip on the dash, and I plan to use the same system in the Skoda, positioning the iPod just below the centre vents on top of the dash.

So here are my questions:

1) Does the new Octavia come with prewired ISO connectors?

2) Is the speed pulse already connected?

3) I read somewhere in these forums that the power connections need to be reversed. Is this true?

4) My GPS antenna is currently stuck underneath the dash in the centre of the car close to the windscreen, out of the way and out of sight. It picks up the satellites fine. How easy would it be to put the antenna in a similar position in the Octavia? What would I have to remove, and is it a 5 minute job or a 5 hour job? Bear in mind that if I have to remove the glove box, on the model I'm hoping to get (Elegance) this is refrigerated...

5) I would need to take a wire and connector from the back of the Becker to the iPod. 2 options seem possible: either through the dashtop storage compartment, or through the storage space underneath the radio. I imagine that using either would require making a hole for the cable to pass through. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks for any suggestions

I can offer my advice and comment from a Fabia vRS point of view....... The octy2 should be similar.....

1) yes on the fabia

2) it is on my car

3) Yes this is true for the fabia

4) my glove box is refrigerated and simply consists of an a/c hose into the glove box. Pretty simple to disconnect. Taking the box out was a 30min job. It should be pretty simple.

5) I have a similar problem - tricky.......

Hmmm, thanks Matt. Perhaps I'll need to add this to the bargaining points when I see the dealer!
