Day Lights

Featured Replies

Hi all I have just taken delivery of a Skoda Octavia SE Connect. Does it have day lights if so how are they turned on. I know dealer will know but is a bit of a way out for me.

On fabia is behind the plastic trim covering fuses under streaming wheel... Not so sure on Octavia.

If you have a second set of bulbs under the foglight covers, you have daylights. It can either be turned on and off in the maxidot trip computer, or through a special combination involving the indicator stalk. Read your owners manual. :)

I think they have to be Enabled ( Vag Com ) for you to use Maxi Dot or the Stalk. They come from the factory deactivated, I think

It should have DRL's

Auric Goldfinger is spot on...you need VCDS to enable them and then you can either use the maxidot display (if you have it) or like me on my elegence you use the main beam/indicator stalk combination to turn on or off....the fact that you want them means youll never turn them off anyway :)

BTW I use these in my DRL's

and they are pretty bright and very white and dont give me any bulb warning error!

Nope, only Elegance and above get DRL's.

The DRL's are part of the foglight cluster and the lowly spec Octavia's don't get front fog lights.

Thought all cars built after a certain date had to have DRL's fitted. They don't have to be used but need to be fitted

Only brand new cars, the MkII Octavia has been around since before the compulsary date so it doesn't have to have them.

DRL's are as much of a desirable feature than a safety feature these days so are used by manufacturers as a marketing or selling feature, hence the bling-bling LED DRL's of the vRS and top-end Audi's.

Oh, ok. I don't think I've seen a single FL MKII Octavia without DRLs here so I thought it was standard everywhere. Different markets, I guess.

My 2 year old Octavia Elegance has DRL's next to the fog lights but so far I have had no luck in getting them to work by following the car manual instructions. I do not have Maxi Dot.

The dealer has tried twice but the result was to make the Xenon driving lights act like DRL's! Luckily I could disable this by following the instructions for DRL's

It seems outrageous that these lights are fitted but are inoperable - is there a way to get them to work properly?

Yes, your dealer can do it, they just don't know how.

Contact Skoda UK (either via an email through their 'contact us' page or by ringing 08457 745745) and ask them to better educate the dealer.

Better still, ask a local member with VCDS (software) to do it for you and avoid the imcompetent dealer altogether.

Welcome to Briskoda by the way!

Thanks for your encouraging response - I will give it a try.

Have had a bit of an influx of late of Elegance Octavias having the DRL's activated, can't see it being any different from a 2 year old one. Good luck.

Note to Silver1011 - we know how to do it :whew:;)

Not seen many around here with DRL. Thought I was alone in Derbyshire. I guess they will all be activated on the upcoming Octavia (and the Rabid)?

Like Bryan I have the same problem but dont want to proceed. Having been a scriptwriter in early life I envisage the following scenario being played out with my friendly Geordie service reception expert(!).

Them: Good morning Mr Tallon what can we do for you today (Aside : we're quite prepared to give you a free good morning as long as you don't make things difficult for us.)

Tom: I thought my Octavia had DRLs but they don't seem to work.

Them: No you've only got the L&K edition and they're only available on the Elagance models.

Tom: But doesn't the L&K have all the Elegence features

Them: No I dont think thats right but I'll go and check with our Managing Head Executive Uber Service Manager. ( Goes away and returns 30 minutes later)

Them : You're in luck Mr Tallon. Although your model doesn't have this facility, it can be implemented using state of the art software engineering in our workshop.

Tom: Thats great would that be quick and free?

Them: Sorry no it will take about a couple of hours @ £60 but as sign of good faith for a valued customer we'll halve the charge.

Tom : I believe a number of Skoda enthusiasts on their forum say it can be done by anyone with the right VW group sotware links.

Them: (fingering their Immaculate Sloda issue overall with expert stripes round the wrists!) No I wouldn't trust amateurs. Here at Skoda we have full quality assurance and control facilities.

Tom: So you'll guarantee the software change.

Them: Noooooo......snce its a nonstandard off spec change out of concern for a valued client.

Tom wakes up iin bed screaming as Skoda manual falls on his head.

Signed by your friendly Forum colleague Tom Cynic - sorry, Tom Tallon whose DRLs are still in pristine condition not having been activated.

Amusing post from Tom Tallon, but I had my Daylight Driving Lights activated by the Dealer free of charge in 5 minutes while

I was having a coffee and doughnut and a free car wash! Mitchells of Ellesmere Port since you ask!

Note to Silver1011 - we know how to do it :whew:;)

May be a quick call to Bryan's dealer with the offer of a quick lesson on how do it!?

Thanks for your encouraging response - I will give it a try.

I'm in Warwickshire Bryan and have both VCDS and a 2009 elegance with working drl's :)

If you ever down this way.....
