Does this part exist?

Featured Replies

Hi all. Just joined in order to seek some help.

I have W reg Fabia 1.4 16V Comfort with AUB engine code and have suffered some coolant loss recently. The leak is from the connector where the top hose goes on to what I believe is the thermostat housing. However, having been sent a parts diagram by a company I rang, in order to identify it, I can't actually see it there. On my car, it is a push fit 90 degree elbow connector which goes on the housing (covering an O-ring seal) and the hose then fits on the other end of the elbow as it were.

It's a plastic part and where it goes on to the housing some plastic has broken and it no longer holds on very well. There's actually a plastic wrap/clip thing round it but I don't know when that was put on. Perhaps I might even get away with just replacing that, but I would prefer a new part. I've attached a photo.

(There's also traces of old Araldite because at first the leaking made me think it was a crack in the elbow.)

I suppose I'm asking does it exist as a stand alone part or is it supplied only with a new housing or perhaps even with new a top hose?

Thanks for any assistance

Hi

Yes the part will excist

I tend to use VAGCAT to find part numbers , then do a google search on images on Google , that then confirms you have the correct part .. just search for VAGCAT , you will need to sign up , but it is free

Hi Sarah and thanks for your reply.

I just did as you suggested but it leads me to the exact same diagram that the company I rang sent me!

It's probably me but I can't see the part anywhere.

Hi,

I have looked at your photo and at the correct parts page for your engine and my gut feeling is that somewhere down the line a bodged non standard part as been fitted. hence the confusion.

Tony

I'll have a look on etka later

i can confirm it a bodge, have scoured your engine code coolant system and nothing like that is there on etka diagrams. All i can see is a flange where coolant rubber hose would be clipped not a 90 deg plastic elbow. I suspect a previous break and a fix

Thanks to freelanderman and Lofty79 for looking into this for me.

Does it mean I probably have the wrong thermostat housing? I can't seem to get on the vagcat site this morning to check the part number but should I have one like this on ebay?

Hi,

A check on the parts program EKTA shows what you have listed as the correct part for your engine, and £21 less than thro a Vag dealer.

Hope this helps

If anyone's interested I located the connector part from a breakers in the end rather than replacing the thermostat housing.

Part number is 032121118B (photo attached).
