seized coilovers!

Featured Replies

Here is my problem i hope you guys could help me with.

i have a 06 vrs and when i bought it, it had already been lowered with coilovers and is slammed as far down as they go. This however is just getting inpractable for me due to driving to and from work and the works car park. i went to a garage were my car could be put up on the ramps to get them raised by 40mm only to find no matter what i or they did we could not free the adjusment of the front passenger side coilover. so i am stuck with my car on its arse!

The reason i am having to put it back up ( i dont want to at all!!!! ) is even driving over cats eys at 80mph the front engine undertray is catching and splitting making it drag across the floor and make awful scrapeing noises at the slightest of bump in the road i am now on my 3rd under tray and they are costing me £40 a go so i decided to raise it up.

so here is my question do i just take off the undertray and hope for the best or is there a way of getting the coilover released?

Thanks in advance :)

There is always a way to release it.

Sadly that could mean taking it off the car and putting it in a vice. Small toothbrush sized wire brush, loads of oil and sprays, best of all... Heat! Just dont go crazy and damage seals.

3 foot stillsons ;) and a can of easing oil!

same problem mate, i've try putting a blunt chisel in the little grips and hitting with a hammer. no chance at all :( guess the stilsons and oil will be next on the list :p

Loads of wd40, a blunt cold chisel and a hammer should do it, works everytime for me!

Just checked : http://www.wd40.com/uses-tips/ and loosening up coilovers isn't on the list but it should be. I really should procrastinate less...
