2.0-Litre 8-valve HT Leads

Featured Replies

Hi all,

have a misfire and have narrowed it down to either HT leads or a dodgy injector. I have just given it a major service myself as it has 150,000 miles on the clock and the last recorded service was at about 125,000-miles. Included in the service was all filters including fuel filter and spark plugs. Given the misfire was there before the service, and it's still there now, I've eliminated the plugs. It's not a big misfire and only happens under load, although at idle you can tell the engine's a bit lumpy by listening and looking at it. The leads did look a little worse for wear when I renewed the plugs. With that in mind, and given they're not too expensive (against about £160 for an injector), I figured I'd replace them.

So my question is, is there a vast difference in brands? As they vary from around £20 online with free P&P to over £60 for the dog's danglies ones, or around £40 bought at an Auto Factors. My theory is, any will do, cheaper the better as long as they're well made etc?

Kind of kicking myself that I didn't do them with the service now, as the plugs were a bit of a nightmare to replace, what with removing the inlet manifold etc!

Opinions?

Thanks!

Performance leads offer little benefit but its far from the cheaper the better. They need to be very good quality to last and there are a lot of utter toss sets on the market.

Beware of ones branded Bosch that are available cheap, they use bosh wire with cheap ends which completely defeats the purpose.

Yeah, I agree. My post came out not as intended, hence why I said they had to be well made. I'm not intending to get cheap Chinese knock-offs, but for me £30 on-line is better than £40 from an Auto Factors or worse still, £65 from VAG. I'm probably looking at spending no more than £35 if I can find a decent set. I noticed some on ebay were cheap, and although sold from the UK, dont say which brand they are, just that they're new.

Thanks for the advice ;)

TBH if the VSG one are only £65 that's what I'd get so they are fit and forget. I've seen so many bad sets from all sorts of sources its not worth risking 2/3 of the money on an unknown.

To put it into perspective new GM Beru leads are £300+ a set from Vauxhall but they happily last 10-15 years.
