Brake fluid leak

Featured Replies

My wife returned home in our Fabia vRS tonight and advised me that the brake warning light was flashing accompanied by 3 warning beeps. The car had a 20K service and brake fluid change 4 weeks ago and at that time I assumed that the brake fluid reservoir had been filled to the top because I couldn't easily see the fluid level.

I have just checked under the car and there is brake fluid around the rear right caliper and the inside of the tyre. It looks as if the fluid may be leaking from the bleed nipple. I have tried unscrewing the brake reservoir cap to check if there is any brake fluid in the reservoir - and to top the fluid up tomorrow when I get some DOT 4 - but I can't get enough leverage on the cap because of the boost pipe immediately above it. Is that pipe straightforward to remove and replace? Is there any reason why I should not try tightening the offending brake nipple? And does DOT 4 mix with DOT 5.1 if the latter was used for the brake fluid change?

a quick nip up of bleed nipple should do it, but dont go mad as they break easily, 8 mm i think.

boost pipe should be straight forward, just make sure joints are tight when doing back up.

Dot 4 will be ok as a top up..

The rear nipples are 9mm on discs or 7mm on drums

Take it back to whoever did the service and kick up a MASSIVE fuss!!!!!

Big safety balls up if they left a nipple loose + the VERY least they should do is carry out another FOC extended b.fluid change. So don't worry about which fluid u use..

Complain of a spongy pedal and say your brakes were sh#t etc etc...

Was it a back street or Main dealer??

If i wer u i wouldn't touch it + i would ring the garage + get them to tow it in + sort it...

Get sum pics aswell in the daylight.

I'd go with Matt - don't touch it. It might not be a loose nipple - they may have overtightened and stripped the thread. If you try to put it right they can wash their hands and it could be a problem for you to solve at unknown expense.
