near side drive shaft bolts come loose

Featured Replies

Just had the AA out near side drive shaft bolts have come loose,so no drive, he could not atempt a roadside fix as he said one or two of them could have snapped

he asked if any work was done recently but could only think of around 2 years ago when a new cv joint was fitted

When you change the cam belt is the drive shaft moved out of the way ???

Not on the 1.9Tdi. Although on some of the petrols I think the drive shafts have to come out for a cambelt change.

It's a bit weird, you'd have to say that when the CV joint was replaced the bolts were not torqued up, but It's lasted 2 years and presumably had at least 2 MOT tests in that time.

So you'd think it would have been spotted.

I had the clutch changed in July but have done 20,000 miles since

Ahh.....maybe that's your culprit.

Did they replace the driveshaft bolts when they did the clutch?

They should have done.

I had a main dealer do the dmf, then they came out about 3 or 4 months later.

The guy that did the original didn't work there much longer and new joints and bolts were fitted.

mine worked loose after a clutch/flywheel change. Cant blame anyone as i did it. But i did do it to the letter, new bolts and correct torque settings - sometimes it can happen even if done correctly, they are still responsible for it though

Are the three double washers still there? They look like two washers with a metal strip between them.

Get the AA to tow it back to the garage that did the clutch and ask them to fix their mistake.

I have but they are not there until 8 AM Monday, have lost 3 extremely lucrative runs through it.around £360

Don't think they replaced the bolts when clutch was done

the washers are possibly still there as the car only drove 20 metres before no drive so had to push car to safe place

I'd say the bolts have been over tightend or not renewed (if they do need to be renewed, as some do not)

Got the car back at 4PM yesterday, new bolts fitted with lock-tight, must say it sounds a lot quieter for some reason, so the bolts must have been loose for a while, no charge for refitting though as I told mech what AA said

Also they cured my first cold start up problem, having to turn the engine until it fired up, by fitting a full set of new glow plugs.

Where is the relay for the glow plugs situated as my dash glow plug light is only on for a split second, just in case its faulty, and what is the cost of a new relay
