Hi anyone else when they drive thru water get the belt squeak and the battery light come on and the steering go stiff? Mk1 octy Vrs buy the way I just wanna no as my belt and that was done when first got car so just don't want be only one :(

Sounds like the aux belt is slipping, is the tensioner OK?

My TDI doesn't, but then it has a full undertray, which I don't think the petrols have.

How much water are we talking about though?

It's just water hitting your belt, check the tensioner as said, if its been slipping a lot it might be needing replaced, you'll be able to tell by how far the tensioner is tensioned.

Driving through standing water deep/quick enough to soak that far up your engine won't be doing your car any favours btw
