ALL Lights showing as faulty

Featured Replies

Having stopped on the motorway today I got back in and started up my Oct 08 170 CR Elegance to be told by the MFC that ALL my lights were faulty. One by one they all came up, "Check rear left indicator, Check rear right indicator" etc. I turned everything on, jumped back out and took a look, everything appeared to be fine. The glow plug light then flashed and I got an "Engine Fault, Workshop" in the MFC. I turned the car off, locked and unlocked and restarted. The glow plug light was not back, but the bulbs once again all came back as faulty.

I double checked all my lights were working and drove home, on the way my indicators were giving the rapid flash on the dash, but appeared to be flashing at normal speed outside? Once home it was fully dark and I noticed that the overhead interior light did not come on when I pulled the key out, even though the foot wells did.

Anyone got any bright ideas before I start spending money please? The car is long out of warranty at 91,000 miles.

Do you have a towbar fitted? My previous Octavia did the same thing, and that was due to the module for the towbar not beeing coded. Non-OEM towbar electronics could also make troubles like this.

Thanks for the reply. No, there is no tow bar on it. There have been no mods at all to the electrics at all that I know of, certainly nothing in the three years I've had it.

Anyone know a good independent in the Northampton area?

This happened to me twice during the 3 years I owned my 2009 Twindoor and to someone else recently on this forum. The next time I started the car everything was fine, so I just ignored it.

I had this early on in my ownership - it turned out to be a faulty electronic Control Module behind the right-hand side of the dash. Can't be more specific about which module, but one had to be imported, so it wasn't a common fault back then. It's been trouble-free ever since.

I had the exact same problem 2 weeks ago and it was accompanied with a failed battery. A tow truck jumpstarted my battery and all the warning lights and error messages in the MFD disappeared.

The dealer diagnosed the problem as a dying battery and replaced it (for USD200 including labour). Ouch.

This is what happens when the service intervals are 15,000 km (and the battery fails at 29,000 km).

Mine did the same on a cold evening a year ago, as well as the dash warning of each bulb in turn not working I found the only indicators working were the ones on the wing mirrors. Called out skoda assist after getting home that evening and of course the problem would not occur again, no fault codes and I've not see it since.

Thanks for all the replies, I've been away a couple of days (in SWMBO's Fabia) so I'll go and give it a go again after work. I suppose at 4 years old the battery could be dying.

Sure enough when I tried again it was fine.

The issue shook my faith in keeping it past 100k, so I called into the dealers today to see what I could part ex it for. Mistake, walked out having taken a L&K they had ordered for the show room. It is already at the port in Germany so should be with me early in the new year.

Why was it a mistake then?

Far more money than I would normally spend, especially this close to Christmas. Went in looking to maybe get something cheaper from their 'ex demo sale' but fell in love with the L&K spec and the estate in the showroom. To be fair to the sales guy he did remind me a couple of times that I was supposed to be saving money. :-)

Sounds like a result to me!

Could be water ingress into a multi plug somewhere with all the rain lately or perhaps a faulty earth...
