Worn switch on indicator?

Featured Replies

Heading to work this morning (At a fresh -1.5c brr) Coming up to a right handed turn, so flick the switch... and find myself indicating left. :wonder:

So pushed the stork a bit more and then it indicates right. Remove the force so it stays in place, before it auto cancels, and it goes back to indicating left again.

Worn switch inside the steering column? This is the first time its done it.

If so, easy to change?

Yeah, this has been reported before, sometimes the contacts inside the switch and/or steering wheel controller get dirty or worn.

I had this a few weeks ago, on the motorway using the three flash indicate (a brief push of the stalk, not all the way into position) to move from lane 2 to 3, I pushed the stalk up and indicated left! The driver behind must have thought I was a right plonker!

Tried to replicate the fault again but it's not yet reappeared.

Switch cleaner inside the stalk works quite well if you can get to it.

Otherwise it's new stalk time, although they did revise the design at some point not too late into the life of the cars.

Had exactly the same thing in SWMBO’s old MK5 Golf, the only solution was a new stalk (tried cleaning etc first).

It’s not a hard job, but it is tricky dropping the steering wheel controller down, the steering wheel also needs to come off.
