vRS factory Columbus won't play any CD's

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm panicking a little ... The Columbus audio/satnav unit in my Octavia vRS (2008) is happy to accept a CD, recognise it's there, attempt to play it but then crackles through the speakers and dies after the first few bars of the song followed by a CD/DVD ERROR message?

I've tried multiple CD's in case it was a dodgy damaged CD but it's doing it to all CD's.

I love my music on CD ... so gutted! Only had the car two days.

Also it seems very keen to play from the HDD when selecting Media function. Too keen.

The previous owner had uploaded several McFly tracks which I've managed to delete bar one track which the system is refusing to allow me to delete, followed by a CANNOT DELETE ACTIVE AUDIO TRACK message.

I'm panicking because the car is no longer under warranty and I'm aware that the Columbus unit is quite expensive to replace (£1k and nobody will give me the part number). I'm really hoping its a software issue and not a mechanical issue.

I've reset back to factory settings in the hope that it would reboot the unit but I don't think it does.

Any guidance much appreciated.

P.S. How could Skoda NOT fit steering wheel controls to a vRS model with such a nice audio unit and nice steering wheel. Bit naughty IMO.

It won't delete a track if it is currently trying to play it , if you press the media button then the unit will default to the last location it played tracks from, either CD, HDD or aux. Why don't you try one of those CD/DVD player cleaning discs, it could be that you simply have a bit of crap on the player lens. Or you could download a few tracks onto an sd card and then load onto the HDD. That is what I have done and find it more convenient.

Just re-read post, if you have only had the car for 2 days then, if it was bought from a dealer, they should have given you some kind of warranty, especially if it was a Skoda dealer.

I can get DVD drives for RNS if you can't get anywhere with warranty

You only get steering wheel controls with a DSG version, unless you do what a few of us have done & retrofit one ;)

Hope you get the problem resolved
