Octavia 2009 1.9 TDI : Top end speed and steering vibration issues.

Featured Replies

Hi Forum,

Recently purchased an used Octavia 1.9 TDI 2009 Model clocked about 50,000 KMS. (India)

Yesterday took to car on a highway run (200 Kms) to understand the things that might need attention.

Few things I noticed :

  • Top end : The car struggles to cross 120KMPH even on a straight line. (4 people on board)
  • High amount of vibration in Steering and Clutch after 100 KMPH.

In the 200 KMs run the car did return a fuel efficiency of 18kms/Lt. (Full tank to Full tank) which I assume is good considering the spirited run on a 50,000KM old clutch.

The tyres are showing sign of wear, could this be the reason for vibration on the steering ?

Would rely on the forum reply :-)

Thanks.

Badly worn tyres will cause steering wobble. You need to get themchecked by a specialist, and they may need to be balanced.

120 kph is slow, you should be able to get 160kph at least.

What could be the probable reasons for the top speed issue?

Any guidance on the parts to scrutinize ?

These cars can manage 200kmph with 4 on-board. Seems sluggish to me.

Feel consumption is about right I would imagine at 50mpg. Depends on how you drive etc.

I stated to consumption as it can give approximate idea of clutch condition and any possible relation to the sluggishness.

1. Top Speed - There can be multiple factors , Turbo , Torque convertor , head acting funny etc . You would need to identify symptoms . I would suggest get the car scanned .

2. Vibrations - First step would be balancing , inspect tyre conditions , rotations etc . Post that you would need to look at cv joints wear and tear .
