Octavia vRS lop-sided instrument housing?

Featured Replies

Hi all

As you can see I'm new to Skoda ownership and loving my Octavia II (MY2008) vRS.

However, something is bugging me about the dashboard notably the instrument housing.

To my eyes it seems the instrument housing (or cluster) containing the speedo, rev counter etc is canted to the left slightly.

If I put the wheel straight the housing above is definately 5 degrees to the left so the clocks are not level?

Could somebody confirm this is normal and that I'm not going nuts! or worse have a wonky dash...

Cheers

Yes someone else raised this a while back. Quite a few of us have offset dashboards relative to the wheel. Irritating but harmless. Seems to be down to how the dash was fitted.

Damn you people now im going to have to get out my digital calipers and check the tollerance on both cars. why do you put these things in my head iv'e already got enough things to be obsessing over. I will probably end up 3D modelling the whole car in solidworks and checking for manufacturing inacuracies lol. :@:bandit::giggle: (mixture if emotions after reading this)

I'm ahead of you. See my comment on page 2 of the thread, it starts, "you're a ******...."

i had the same thing on my 58 plate. Was going to have a moan but I got used to it after a week so never bothered me after that.

I don’t think ckracer76 is referring to uneven gaps either side of steering column.

They are talking about the instrument cluster not being horizontal

I also initially thought my instrument cluster tilted to the left but then realized my eyes were playing tricks on me.

In deciding whether the instruments are perfectly horizontal the eye needs some reference to compare to. My eyes were being fooled by the dash top to windscreen interface, which I was mistaking for a horizontal reference whereas due to the curvature and pronounced drop towards the side it is actually a long way off horizontal. This can be mistaken for the instruments tilting the other way.

Pay no attention to the steering wheel in this context as there is no guarantee it is perfectly aligned when road wheels are facing straight ahead.

Have noticed my dash clocks look uneven too but I can't be bothered to take a spirit level out just now to check.

Was it lop sided fitting of the dash pod clocks that was mentioned before, or the complete dash board having different gaps left and right of the steering column? Not sure this is the same complaint/comment of the OP here. Had a quick search, but can't find the relevant thread.

Mike

Thanks Mike, no it's just lop sided in relation to the design of the dash pod clocks when the wheel is dead ahead.

Very strange, all the cars I've had all had level instruments.
