That would be it.

I was basing my info on the diesel.

I hesitate to comment on this as I was the original poster of the other thread and I was amazed at the angst that it generated!

I decided to keep my head below the ramparts after not getting my question answered and apparently initiating a "parking lights"/"sidelights" war.

I shall try the countrigo test later this evening when it gets dark, I can't see any evidence of a mark on the rev counter in daylight..

If it is as stated then the next question is "how can it be disabled"?

Disabled... Easiest and cheapest way would be to shine a light on the rev counter all the time :)

As everything electronic surface mount these days I doubt whether it could be done as components are so small.

If you were brave enough you could remove the instruments, take them apart and put a link across the sensor terminals. :o

Tried the test and it is as you said but I cannot see any mark on the dial that would indicate the presence of a sensor.

I wonder if any of the VCDS experts can say whether there is an option to disable this function?

Fred, the sensor is a small round patch on the face of the dial. It's about 5 mm dia.

Your car has the same engine as mine so it should be on that imaginary line between the centre of the dial and the 5500 rpm mark.

It's about 15 mm from the edge of the dial.

Happy hunting.

Yes, there is a dot there on Annie's rev counter dial - very difficult to see - even though she doesn't actually have auto lights.

I think all Yeti models have this feature regardless of spec.

On my 1.8TSi, the sensor dot is just towards the centre of the dial adjacent to 7200 rpm on the rev counter. Tested it with a dim led torch & yep... it works!

Another mystery solved, thanks everyone, I can sleep at night now!!!
