Help! Horrible noises!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I wonder if you can help me?

I've got a 54 plate VRS and recently have had replaced: my Brake Discs, Brake Pads, Calliper Carriers and also the console bushes.

Since having the work done though, I was starting to get a little bit of creaking from the front left... but only at lowish speeds.

It's been a few weeks now and the noise is gradually getting worse!! Again... it's mainly noticable at 30ish mph and lower but it's difficult to explain the noise!!

The only way I can describe it is a creaking combined with a clunking/twanging noise?? Sorry Cr@p description I know!!

I thought at first I had a snapped coil spring or that the spring was maybe not seated properly... but I've jacked the car up and can't see anything noticable.

Also... it seems to happen "mainly" when I decelerate and accelerate or when I start reversing into a space etc... but I can get it to creak when the car is still and I turn the steering wheel to the left and right??

When I was blipping the throttle and the car was already moving, I even thought I felt a thud come from the front, which makes me now wonder if it's an engine mount or something???

Anyone got any Ideas or had anything similar?? bit of a random one I know!!

Cheers

Mine does the same, especially when the car's dry (wet seems to calm it down). It went through an MoT with no advisories with it & seems to be general "suspension creak"...I'm planning to spray some grease around the joints once the weather improves and hopefully pin-point the cause but apart from that, it doesn't affect the driving or handling at all, so not too worried :wonder: !

Drop link? If it's not been tightened up fully it'll make a similar noise when pulling away/Stopping.

this has just happened to me, its like a clunking sound when you turn the wheel or just shake it, i've checked my strut, spring, caliper slider, its only from the nearside, think its going to drive me nuts until i get it done, hate creaks and unusual sounds. cheers avalon  , will check 2 moz.

The Polo suspension creaks sometimes too. Though oddly, it'll creak over every bump/turn for a couple of days, then nothing for a few weeks then repeat. I was told it may be to do with how a spring is seated as it slowly rotates through repeated compression/release.
