Smoky VRS

Featured Replies

I took my fab for a spirited drive over the Eco triangle today,my mate driving behind me driving an s3 (who couldn't keep up with me) said my car was smoking when I put my foot, any help or advice what it could be or how to sort it??

?Was it the EVO Triangle?

They can smoke when being booted. Thats just what can happen.

(Lots of smoke often after pottering about and then giving it some)

As long as its just soot thats not a problem.

Certainly nothing you can do about it is the cars runs well, uses no oil & is only heavy on petrol when not warmed up or when booting it.

what colour? They do smoke a little when initially pulling away, ive seen that on mine and many others, but once your driving its normally clear.

Mine used to pump out grey smoke with the shark map though!!

The Evo triangle is where Evo magazine test cars it an epic bit of B road in north Wales,it's not blue smoke just soot.

Then as said its just giving itself a good clear out :D

I bet i know what that was then, your car would have been overfueling.

When your car starts to get too hot, in order to reduce the Exhaust Gas Temperatures(EGT) the car will overfuel. The extra fuel cools down the cylinders, reduces the EGTs and keeps it all running safe. Its perfectly fine and a safety feature of the standard map as well as any remap, the only bad byproduct will be you will lose power when this happens as a richer air/fuel mixture generally means less power until the temps have dropped again.

The best way to reduce the EGTs is with an exhaust with less back pressure then its upgrades like an intercooler....then water meth if you feel the need.

indeed, mine smokes occasionally when booting... (black) overfuelling... they all do.

lippylj,

i knew were the EVO triangle was OK, having driven and puffed out plenty of smoke there.

It was the 'Eco' triangle i was less sure about.
