There is a rubber grommet up there somewhere that runs from behind glovebox into the engine bay (will need to removed air free box & battery to get to it).

Wonder if that might be perished / ripped / etc. and water is getting in there?

From the inside (remove glovebox) it's slightly left of centre and up behind some plastic, but you won't see anything from inside.

Hi

Picture 3 seems to be missing a plastic bung about the size of a saucer. I understand from another post that it's a cover for a hole into which a jacking support point can be fitted. It's an Audi sport modification but some have fitted it to Sodas since the holes are there.

As for the mirrors working on R. I think that is intentional. It allows you to change the right when reversing to look down to the kurb and alter the left with it. I find it very handy. Like you I just found it happening. Page 82 of the manual makes reference to it but is poorly worded.

I have also suffered from the odd leak there. I put plastic behind/under the carpet but it doesn't seem to happen much. I think the pollen / air intake is there and water leaks in when I use a power hose. If you have a pollen filter I would certainly make sure it's new and the drain holes in the scuttle are clear.

Good luck with finding a cure, I never keep a car long after it starts leaking.

Another thought, I have used talcum powder in the past to track leaks. It smells nice and any water will leave a track through it. After wards I just vacuum it away.

This behaviour can be modified with VCDS (and possibly Maxidot - I don't know as I don't have it) so that the mirrors operate independently if each other.

When they are synchronised, 'L' just moves the left mirror and 'R' moves both at the same time.

I find the dipping mirror very useful as well. If only I had electric seats then this would be automated...
