Electrical faults?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Hoping for some advice please. I've got a 2012 diesel vrs. 11k miles.

I've just driven home from work, 20 miles, all motorway at 70 mph. It was raining the whole time.

When I pulled up outside my house I turned the radio off , then the ignition. At this point the external fan came on and the radio came back on and started searching for traffic channels.

The fan stayed on for a few minutes and when I sat back in the car there was a faint smell of burning rubber.

Are there any common faults for this type of thing or any ideas please on what it could signal?

Thanks guys.

Les.

The fan could have been a atemped dpf regen.

I think when you remove the key the radio gives you the option of recording traffic announcements? Never really paid attention to it..

And if you interrupt a regen the fans come on to cool the exaust down. If you had restarted the car the revs would have been sitting higher at around 1000 instead of 800.

Sometimes does this when I get home from work as well as the burning smell.

This is entirely normal but if I were you I'd have a read up about the dpf so you know what to expect.

When I get in the car the next day the revs will be again slightly higher until the regens completed.

Excellent. That has reassured me. I was all set for marching back down to the dealers and going off in one.

Thank you.
