1.3 thermostat and housing

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I know this has been done to death on here but I can't find the answer to my question. My felly has all the symptoms of a stuck open thermostat so have ordered thermostat and housing from gsf, intend to change it this weekend. I understand the original was held in the housing by plastic clips, my new one is a complete metal thermostat which fits into the hole in the housing, I also have in the kit a big rubber o ring, does this go into the housing first then put in the thermostat or does it go in after therefore mating up with the other part of the housing staying on the car.

Many thanks for your assistance.

On mine that I just replaced, the O ring goes inside the new housing (outer) the thermo goes in the inner housing (still in the car I take it) then the outer housing with the O ring then tighten as prescribed.. Had to kind of hold my thermo in as I placed the housing over it, (not had a sideways mounted thermostat before).

Thanks, just the answer I was looking for, yes the other part of housing is still fixed to car, so thermostat into there then new housing with o ring inside.

Cheers, hope we don't get too much snow for the weekend!!
