TCS & ABS lights have come on

Featured Replies

Evening all

On the way home this evening both the tcs and abs warning lights came on during moderate braking.

I was not driving but a slight kick back could be felt through the brake pedal. Is this a symptome of anything known about? New front discs & pads were fitted at the front a couple of months ago. Car is an 02 elegance 110 5door.

Thanks.

There's a couple of things it could be; low alternator charge or a failed ABS sensor. You'll be needing VCDS to identify which sensor.

Im in Sudbury, chap, if you dont have VCDS/VagCom...

Failed ABS sensor to me. Usually what brings up both those lights as the traction control and ABS both need 4 working sensors (1 each corner) to work

VCDS will tell you which corner is affected too.

Thanks for the replies & for the offer whitep. I'll take it to my mechanic in the morning. Are both front abs sensors normally replaced as a pair or just the faulty one? Is it an expensive job?

Cheers.

Al

Just the faulty sensor, which will take minutes, but there are four sensors one for each wheel. Of course, this means that each wheel is anti-locked independantly when the ABS is working.

Update.

Turned out to be the front off side abs sensor. Although lights went out on the way to the garage - typical. Cost was £103 to replace. Wheel & disc had to come off I was told hence the labour.
