Elegance Tdi - Pain from uncomfortable drivers seat

Featured Replies

2000 Elegance Tdi - seat worn out?

I have recently started to get a pain in my right buttock and leg, after long journeys - it really is pretty painful after 100 miles. I have had the car for five years and cover 20,000 miles a year in it - the mileage is now 220,000. My wife has complained of the same problem. Both of us are fine in our other vehicle (old Ford Transit). I can feel hard edges through the seat squab - I think that they are pressing on a nerve. I've tried sitting on cushions, blankets, sitmats etc, but still can't get comfortable. Does anybody know if it is possible to replace the cushioning in the seat squab, or of anything else that might work. This forum has been brilliant for finding solutions in the past - I'll be really grateful for any suggestions that might work in this case.

It wouldn't surprise me if the seat base is worn out. There was a noticeable difference between the comfort of the drivers and passengers seats in my old car.

You could probably get some replacement seats off ebay or similar. mkIV golf or mkI seat leon seats will fit as will Audi A3 seats, though getting seats with airbags would be the easiest otherwise you will need to get the airbag module recoded.

Replacement seats are very cheap. If you want standard then go for that. If not I think a set of Bora Sportline seats of A3 seats would be very, very nice. I prefer even standard Bora seats to the octy ones. Be warned though insurers DO count this as a modification...well Admiral do.

Replacement seat base foam is about £70 from main dealer or TPS. Not that difficult a job to do.
