Octavia L&K Speakers

Featured Replies

Hey all, I had an Octavia Ambiente estate which I must say that the standard speakers were pretty poor. I added an amp and a box where the tonneau sat and it was better. Anyway, 7 years on I bought a MK1 L&K and hoped the speakers would be better as its a posh one. They arent.

My Wifes A3 has a great setup, the sound really envelopes (?) you. It like being wrapped in a warm duvet metaphorically speaking, but in my L&K it feels like im sitting in a freezer in speedos. I just put it down to it being a Skoda over an Audi.

My car was in for 2 weeks having warranty work being done on it and I had a Pug 107 and a Fabia as courtery cars. Both had better speakers, or at least I think the Pug did, I couldnt hear it over hairdryer engine and wind noise. The Fabia had amazing speakers IMHO compared to my L&K.

What can I do to improve things in my car? I always thought L&K's were supposed to have Bose setups. If it does I am never buying anything Bose again.

bose...i doubt it dude!

skoda speakers that i have seen have all been paper

best thing you can do (from an audio point of view) is rip it all out and start again with some component speakers in the front and some upgrades in the rear

One of the reasons the Skoda speakers don't sound as good as the golf etc is down to the door. The golf has a metal panel on the inside of the door, which makes it essentially a sealed box, whereas the skoda doesn't. The skoda also has a waterproof sheet behind the speaker which stops the speaker from 'breathing'. If you cut a hole out of the sheet behind the speaker, it will sound a lot more bassy.

No it won't. It will sound a tiny bit better.

The standard kit in a mk1 octy is all, and this is being generous, poor.

You won't get decent sound quality without replacing all the speakers and head unit. Sorry.

I know it won't make it sound amazing - The Skoda speakers and HU are pretty sh*te like you said and a decent speaker upgrade will help no end.

However, even if you do put some proper components in, I would still remove some of the membrane, as it will have a negative effect on the bass response of the speaker. If you leave it there, the tiny volume of air between the cone and the membrane will act like a spring and cut a lot of bass because the cone can't travel properly. If you cut the membrane out, the air volume will get a lot bigger and the speaker won't encounter any resistance. That's why speaker manufacturers quote recommended minimum enclosure volumes, and why the golf/a3/leon etc sounds better (along with having better speakers too).

All of this is presuming the door has the black foam rubber membrane in it and behind the speaker. Some of the MK1's have a transparent mylar film and I'm not sure if this goes behind the speaker or not.
