Radio backlight stays on

Featured Replies

Hi,

We've had a 51 plate octavia estate now for 6 months and everything has worked perfectly until today. When I went to put the radio on this morning it wouldnt work, no display, no error message, no safe mode ... no nothing ....but yet i notice the green backlight is on and the display screen as a consquence is warm.

By this evening the radio still wont come on and the backlight still wont go off, regardless of how long you wait.

It's an original headunit and like I mention above, hasn't ever been a problem playing the radio/cds.

Anyone got any suggestions?

cheers

David

I had this problem a while ago, when I first got the car. A few gentle taps seems to get it to work. However, when I got the chance, I simply unplugged the power cable to it, and reconnected it, and didn't have a problem after that

Hey, it worked! :D Thanks Pimpster!

I gave it few taps, and a bit of squeezing and pushing but nothing happened.

So because I couldnt find the radio keys to pull the headunit out to check the power cable, I took the radio fuse out, which got the backlight to go off! :D Fuse was ok so popped it back in, started the car and then turned on the radio. Safe mode came on, waited a few seconds, it found the programmed code and then hey presto the radio came on and all my stations were back. Turns on and off now like it always did!

However....I seem to have now lost all climate control / fan control :(

no lights, no fans, no nothing and I cant seem to find a fuse number for the climate control console? I've tried the fan fuse, but that's fine.

I dont think I was too heavy handed?

so does this point to some underlying electrical/software glitch? Computer got itself in a twist?

Should I disconnect the battery and for how long?

:D but :( at the same time...

cheers

David

take it back mate, let the dealer sort it if its in warrenty

Lol glad I could help

The climate problem has got something to do with the fuse (for the climate) / fuse box mate. If its not under warrenty, remove each fuse individually and see if its ok. I doubt very much that there is anything majorly wrong with anything. Its just a case of finding the correct the fuse for the climate.
