Ignition Switched Fuse

Featured Replies

I'm installing a dashcam in the Polo (9N), yes, its not a Fabia I but common platform blah, blah, blah and am trying to find a switched fuse. I found that all the big ones are either perma live or switch with the switch for the thing they control - ie headlights.

Does anyone know of a fuse that is switched by the ignition? I didn't check the mini fuses as I don't have a doubler for those (but can get one) and you can't just stick a meter on them as they don't have exposed pins on the rear.

I currently have the cam connected using a doubler on the headlight fuse, as she drives around with the lights on all the time anyway.

usually the rear heated window fuse is switched

have you got the fuse layout diagram handy?

Try 46 or 47 or 49 mate.

They're perma-on :( The ignition seems to switch at the button, which doesn't really seem to make any sense to me.

Or the earth side is switched, which doesn't help me as the cam is earthed to a screw in the fusebox.

You removing key from ignition when testing?

Got to be one that's switched

Was having trouble with my octy. Finally found one this morning!

Yes I am :)

I think I'll just leave it as is, unless the mini ones are wired differently.

On a 9N, fuses 16, 18 and 20 are Terminal 15 (on when ignition is on)

If you meant a 9N then great, I will get a mini fuse splitter. Thanks all.

Yes - 9N

Spot on. Tested 16 with a meter and it works perfectly :) It's for the windscreen washers to far happier doubling up on that. I have a mini fuse tap on order.

I'm looking to do exactly the same thing except with an amp since I can't find an ignition switched live anywhere else. Fuse 16 looks ideal (thanks Baldwin!) How did you get on with the mini fuse tap?

Silly question but the resulting wire is a positive right? So to complete the circuit I would ground the other wire that comes out of the amp? Just trying to get my head around this. Thanks

Yes, the remaining wire is live. Ground the other wire from your amp.

I wired in a charging cradle into the Roomster using a piggy back fuse option. I chose to use the rear wiper fuse on the basis that it would not be 'essential' if it blew for some reason.

Thanks Jonny. Well the piggy back fuse tap thing I bought plugs in where the existing fuse does, then it has two female fuse plugs mounted to it: one for the existing circuit (front washer in my case) and the second is for whatever you choose to wire it up to, in my case it'll be a 10a fuse for the amp, even though there's another fuse inline on the power cable.. There's no harm in going through two fuses in series is there?
