Hello ... we bought a Skoda Superb yesterday. We were returning home from VW West London, where we had been no more than a few hundred pounds removed from a deal on a year old Passat estate. However, they stubbornly/greedily refused to give us one penny below their initial price. The fact that they had tried to trick us into a 12% APR loan ("oh I would need to double check but I'm almost sure it's 3.9% APR") didn't help their case either. We had brought an iPad with us which had a Loan Calculator app on it, so they had no choice but to admit that they had not been entirely honest with us. In the end, we walked - to their general consternation. Lovely feeling, btw!

On the way hone, we drove through Isleworth when we noticed a Skoda dealer. We decided to pop in to inquire about the new Octavia. We had a reasonable offer for one on Autoebid but they could not match it, so we just wandered around the showroom a bit before leaving, when we noticed a 12 reg. Superb. The car looked great and had a price tag of 18K - 1000 cheaper than the Passat and within budget.

It turned out to be a Superb Elegance DSG. Now, I was aware that this is a great car but not in my wildest dreams had I imagined that you could get a nearly new one for 18K! We had looked at a Greenline SE Superb (manual) with similar mileage in Epsom, and that also cost 18K.

Anyway, in the end, we took the car's twin brother for a spin, and were incredibly impressed. Apart from an extra half decibel in road noise, it is in no way inferior to the Passat ... in fact, I found it to be the slightly better drive!

We managed to get the price down to 17.7K which looked like a very good deal to us, so we signed (this twin brother had been advertised at a slightly higher price of 18.5K, due to very low mileage).

Now we are very excited indeed! We are picking it up on Saturday!! Looking forward to being a Skoda owner!!

----

(BTW if anyone's interested, the second half of the twin is still there, and they were willing to let it go at 17K ... this is the ad ... http://www.marlborou...8602835558.aspx)

Congratulations!

Great car. I bet it has a better spec than the Passat too. Love the electric leather seats.

More legroom and the 'twin door' to boot!

You also get a full 3 years European Assistance with Skodas.

Enjoy!

Yes that was a very nice little bonus. We only found out afterwards.

Picked up the car today. Still very happy with the deal.

I also saw a new Octavia (in metallic blue) in their showroom. Really looks brilliant. If you ordered a new one without seeing it, you are in for a nice surprise, they look even better in real life than in pictures!

Welcome aboard. If you were feeling vindictive you could go back to the VW dealer with a big grin on your face!

Did my first proper miles yesterday. Very comfortable car, and certainly a big step up from the previous one (Peugeot 207 - not knocking it, though, a very nice little car).

I have two niggles, however.

1) The car tends to veer slightly to the right. Not a disaster, but undeniable. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it just a matter of getting the wheel alignment done?

2) Not sure about the wheels/tyres (18'' alloy with continental 225/40). While the combination is certainly a quiet and good looking one, I found the ride slightly more bumpy than expected. Could I get a softer ride if I changed to 17'' wheels and/or different tyres? I'm not really that bothered about style and performance, I'd prefer comfort if I could choose only one.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks.
